COVID-19 has forced us all to make changes that can create a lot of stress in our lives.

Stress happens to all of us. The question is whether your stress is good or bad. There are two types of stress. One is EUSTRESS and the other is DISTRESS.

While it might be common to think of every bit of stress you have as bad, good stress is actually beneficial. Whenever you encounter something in life that’s good, you feel eustress. This type of stress can lead to positive outcomes.

It allows you to stay focused, accomplish tasks or goals and maintain a positive outlook. It’s a feel-good stress that you might experience with something daring like riding a roller coaster or parachuting from an airplane.

But it can also stem from something like having to give a speech or handling a new area of work at your job. You feel good because you have to stretch yourself and tackle something that makes you level up.

It can also stem from the people you encounter in your life such as your friends, family or spouse. With eustress, the effects that you get from it are all positive. This kind helps boost your self-esteem and make you feel like you can handle anything. You feel happy with your life.

When you have eustress, it doesn’t leave you feeling drained. Instead, you feel full of energy. You may feel motivated to accomplish things and it makes you stronger mentally and physically.

Distress on the other hand isn’t good for you. This type of stress can harm your body and create mental chaos. You might find that your emotions are heightened with this type of stress.

When you experience this, it may cause you to feel that everything is coming at you all at once and you just can’t handle it. You may develop anxiety, anger, irritability and find that you struggle to get through the day.

At work, you might feel overwhelmed rather than excited or challenged. You feel like you’re trying to do too many things and everything feels harder. You can experience either type of stress at home or work, but you can also encounter this whenever something new happens in your life and depending on the type of stress you have, the reaction you have will greatly differ.

For example, if you’re trying something that’s outside of your comfort zone, eustress will make you feel excited to have a new encounter. Distress will only see the potential for a negative outcome.

You can spot the difference between these two types of stress based on how you feel. If you feel energized and excited in a situation, that’s a good stress, but if you feel drained or overwhelmed and just want to shut down, that’s a sign you’re dealing with bad stress.

Always Put Safety First Before You Start

Be sure to clear away furniture and obstacles around the house. If you have any bushes to close to the house you will need to use tie-backs or give them a good trim.

At 1500 lbs. of pressure you better be wearing some serious eye protection as little chunks of whatever flying back at you could ruin your day. Remove any power cords plugged in to your house and if possible turn off per to your outdoor receptacles.  Cover all vents like your dryer vent with plastic and tape.

Double check that your doors and windows are tightly shut. No since adding an interior mess to clean, right?!

Use Environmentally Approved Products

We recommend using a detergent that is safe for the environment. Even so, be sure to spray down plants that were coated in over spray to remove any residue.

Spray the detergent solution over the area of your home to be cleaned. Spray from the ground up and let it do its thing for the time recommended by the manufacturer. Do not get too far ahead of yourself as the solution can dry quickly.

Typically a 40 degree spray nozzle gives you the correct angle and DO NOT spray to close as a powerful pressure washer can strip paint or blow holes in Stucco if too close.

Tall houses will require a pressure washer extension wand. There is a surprising amount of powerful kick-back when you press that trigger which could easily unbalance you if you are on a ladder. You don’t want to end up like Humpty Dumpty!

If your house is just too tall you can rent some sturdy scaffolding, or throw in the towel and hire a professional.

Please, don’t risk a fall.

I have found a coarse Swiffer type dust mop works really well. Plus the long extension handles you can purchase helps keeps you safe and off of rickety step ladders.

RUBBA-DUB-DUB

Make a mild detergent solution from a neutral product like Dreft detergent. Use a microfiber cloth that you can attach to the dust mop head and be sure it is only damp, not dripping with water, as that is not good for your paint and will leave maddening water streaks down your wall.

GRANDMAS FAVORITE FIX-IT

In the kitchen and dining area, you will find some additional challenges such as; food splatters, grease stains, and maybe some crayon souvenirs from your grandkids. If the stain won’t budge with soapy water, stir up a mixture of baking soda and water. I remember my Mom putting that slurry on my ant bites and bee stings when I was but a wee lad. Don’t scrub hard just use a light circular motion and let the mild abrasive action break down the stain. Also, be sure to wipe the area clean with a damp cloth otherwise your walls could end up looking a bit spotty when the treated area dries.

DINGS AND SCRATCHES
